Welcome to the website of the Strategy as Practice Study Group (le “Groupe d’études sur la pratique de la stratégie” or GéPS for short)!
The GéPS was created in 2006 by faculty in the management department at HEC Montréal to undertake research in the emerging area of “Strategy as Practice.” The group is linked to an international movement of researchers interested in the study of the activities and practices of strategy formation, drawing on theories of social practice. This site introduces the members of the group and our ongoing activities. Please contact us if you would like to know more, or if you would like to participate in the group’s activities.
The image above is inspired by an M.C. Escher lithograph titled “Relativity“. This print, as well as several other intriguing works by Escher have been reproduced in LEGO by Andrew Lipson. The image we have chosen represents well the complex, paradoxical and multi-dimensional character of strategic practices in organizations.
